Market Square

Another drawing from a recent drawing excursion in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This one was drawn with a Pilot V5 (which they now make with a retractable point). As I mentioned in earlier posts, one of the fun things about the Pilot V5 is that the ink is not waterproof, so you can get some interesting wash effects if you apply a Niji Waterbrush.

Atomic Trash

ga061410

The drawings above are from the latest Portland, Maine edition of the Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. Our models for the evening were the performance art duo Atomic Trash, who put on a great show. The only downside was that the ladies offered so much great material that it was hard to do them justice in such short poses (typically, two to eight minutes each).

Oh, and for the curious, in the drawing on the bottom left the model is holding a baby narwhal. I think that basically explains itself. If not, let’s just say you had to be there.

Two drawings, same pose. The top one was done in about ten minutes with ink and brush. The bottom one was done in about five minutes with a pilot V5 and a watercolor brush pen.

Moleskine Doodles 03.02.10

ga030210

It’s been a little while since I uploaded a page of doodles from one of my Moleskine notebooks. I’ve been drawing in them more than ever, but none of them have grabbed me enough to want to post them. The image above didn’t either, but I think I need to start uploading pages like this to break up all of the figure drawings that I have been putting up here.

In the past, I was doodling almost exlcusively with my trusty Pentel Brush pen, but recently I have been on more of a pen kick (the Pilot Precise V5 and the Sharpie pen being my instruments of choice). The tone in the drawing above was added with a Copic marker.

Another look at two drawings for the same pose. The top one took about ten minutes and was done with ink, brush and wash on hemp charcoal paper. The second one took about five minutes and was done in my Moleskine with a Pilot V5 pen. A watercolor brush pen (filled with water) was used to add tone.

It being winter here in New England, the model decided to go with the hat, which added a bit of a “gangsta” flair to her poses.
