Alternative Knight

This is a different version of the knight illustration I posted last week. Originally, I wanted to go more for a sketchy, almost line cut kind of feel but ended up going in a more straight forward direction. Still, I like the slightly more abstract nature of this drawing.

The Grail and the Knight

The illustration above is the black and white lineart for a project I am working on for a friend. I may post the final color version when the project is launched.

Figure Drawing 03.29.10

I often tend to draw rather fast. I like to try and get a lot of spontaneous energy in my drawings. As a change of pace, I’ve been trying to be a lot more deliberate in some of my drawings. The drawing above is an example of this. I really slowed down my pace and tried to attack the drawing from one to the other (as opposed to building the total drawing up). The slower approach definitely gives a different feel to the drawing. I really think it helps me focus on what I see, instead of drawing what I think I see.
I definitely prefer the faster high-energy drawings, but I think it’s good to mix in some of these more deliberate ones to help stretch my skills.

A Little Rusty
Posted by trev | Filed under Figure DrawingWent to my first figure drawing session in about a year earlier this week. I think it’s gonna take me a little while to get back in the groove, but it felt good to get back in the saddle. The image above is a drawing from the session. It was done with ink and brush for a 20 minute pose. It gets a little wonky in the one leg, but it’s not bad overall.
