The drawings above were done during a day at Museum of Fine Arts, Boston a couple of weeks ago. I had a great day wondering around the museum, sketching, taking photos and checking out the newly added wing. It seemed like the perfect time to try out the sassy new Stillman & Birn Epsilon series sketchbook I was given a couple of months ago.

With a versatile paper that seems well-suited to ink, I think the Epsilon series pulls ahead as my favorite of Stillman & Birn’s sketchbook offerings. Aesthetically, I typically prefer a paper with a little bit of tooth in it, but a plate surface (like the one the Epsilon series features) works much better with brush pens and fountain pens (my current preferred sketching tools). My Kuretake brush pen almost glides across the surface of this sketchbook. When I sketch faster, the brush pen does not seem to dry out as quickly as it does on other sketchbook paper.

Definitely looking forward to putting this sketchbook through its paces in the weeks ahead.
